Product listing page (PLP)

A product listing page, or PLP, presents a group of products for browsing and comparison. It helps the buyer narrow the selection and reach a suitable product detail page through useful labels, filters, sorting and product links.

Help buyers compare a useful collection

The listing page supports choosing between items; the product page supports choosing the exact item and option. An intermediary category page may instead show subcategories and departments, so not every page called a category page is a product listing. A grid without meaningful differences forces shoppers to open every product. Show the comparison details that matter for that collection, rather than assuming the same product-card fields suit bags, lamps and refill packs.

Illustrative overnight-bag collection: cards show capacity, dimensions and whether a shoulder strap is included. Filters narrow by material and capacity, while sorting changes the order without silently changing the chosen filters. A shopper comparing a 20-liter bag with a 35-liter bag can see the difference before opening a PDP. Returning from the product page preserves a sensible place in the list.

A listing can be visually tidy while hiding unavailable items, resetting filters or making later products unreachable. The collection’s structure, empty states, pagination and links need testing. A category name alone does not establish that the page deserves a separate search destination.

Next, choose a real comparison task and attempt it on a phone. Check whether the cards expose the decisive information, the filters keep their state and a product beyond the first screen is discoverable.
