Label a campaign link consistently
Campaign labels and action tracking solve different problems. The labels identify the link used to arrive; a separately implemented event records a completed action. Use consistent naming so “newsletter” and “Newsletter” do not become accidental reporting categories. Avoid putting personal or confidential information into a URL.
Illustrative campaign link: /collections/picnic/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spring-picnic. A subscriber uses the link and later completes one test order. The campaign fields describe the visit, while the purchase is tied to one transaction identifier. Reloading a confirmation page or changing campaign labels should not be designed to generate another purchase record for that same transaction.
Prevent tracking tags from changing the conversion count
Adding tags does not install analytics, establish consent or guarantee attribution. The destination must handle the parameters without changing the product or breaking the page. Internal navigation should not be casually retagged as a new acquisition campaign.
Next, agree a naming sheet, open a tagged link in an authorized test and inspect the captured source fields. Then verify the action independently and check that a repeat page visit does not duplicate the business outcome.
