Separate a linked source from a supported claim
Separate three observations: the answer mentions a business, the answer links to a page, and the linked page actually supports the statement. Those can occur independently. A citation count records linked appearances within a defined sample; it is not a measure of product accuracy, recommendation strength or sales.
Illustrative answer: a system says a fictional backpack holds 30 liters and links to its product page. The page specifies 24 liters. Record the AI product or surface, prompt, answer date, linked URL and conflicting specification. The link is present, but it does not support the capacity claim. Checking only whether the brand was cited would miss the information a buyer might rely on.
Check product facts against the cited page
This is a worked example, not an observed AI result. Answers can vary between runs and products. Google documents supporting links in its AI search features; that does not establish identical citation behavior across all assistants or guarantee that a correction will propagate.
Next, compare the exact answer statement with the cited passage and the business’s current source of truth. Correct the public fact where needed, then repeat a dated observation without treating one run as a trend.
