Assign a source and owner to each product fact
Give product identity, fit, power, use restrictions and changing stock explicit sources and visible destinations. Keep stable specifications separate from operational values so one stale paragraph cannot override inventory. The ledger makes corrections traceable; actual AI-answer accuracy still requires a separately captured observation of the exact product and market.
Worked example — illustrative data.
| Fact | Specimen value | Visible source and owner |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Arc clamp lamp; SKU ARC-C | Exact product heading; catalog owner |
| Fit | Clamp opening up to 45 mm | Product specification; supplier record needed |
| Power | Mains powered | Product details; product owner |
| Use | Dry indoor use | Restriction beside selection; approved source |
| Availability | Current variant state, not permanent prose | Inventory display; operations owner |
Choose attributes that change a purchase decision and assign a source for each. Separate stable specifications from changing price or stock so updates do not rely on rewriting a guide. Map every public fact to its visible page and record the review trigger. Resolve contradictions between product copy, feed and structured data at the source system. Keep internal evidence privately while publishing the clear, supportable answer customers need.
Record the fact that overrides the parent description
Add a variant row whenever fit, power, contents or use restrictions differ from the parent product. For the illustrative clamp lamp, write the measurement basis beside 45 mm and identify the supplier record that would support it. When a supplier revises that specification, mark every affected page and feed for review rather than changing only the fact sheet.
Parent-level facts can hide material variant differences
A product family can contain variants with different dimensions or power requirements. A parent-level fact must not overwrite a material variant difference. Attach the scope and identifier beside the attribute.
Use the ledger to correct inconsistent source information and identify missing facts. Check AI answer accuracy separately with actual dated captures; the ledger is not an observation of any AI system.
Should current stock live in a permanent description?
Use a maintained inventory display for changing availability. The permanent description can explain the available finishes without implying that every finish is in stock now. Keep a source and an owner for each fact that could change a buying decision.
