Connect monitoring triggers to investigations
Investigate monitoring changes through an explicit trigger: a persistent factual error, a source that no longer supports its claim or a change in collection conditions. Log the investigation owner and report correction separately. Sampling definitions belong in the measurement protocol; this register decides what operational work follows an observed issue.
Worked example — illustrative data.
| Illustrative trigger | Investigation | Owner role | Report change | Closure evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Same material product error recurs in matched captures | Trace answer claim to exact product/source passage | Product facts owner | Add an accuracy issue; do not invent a ranking loss | Approved source correction plus later answer observation |
| Citation no longer supports the reported claim | Review captured page and attribution | Research reviewer | Correct or qualify the report row | Passage and review record |
| Surface/model or account context changes | Identify affected comparison period | Monitoring owner | Annotate and split incomparable series | Updated context log |
| Prompt set changes | Explain added/removed buyer task | Report owner | Restate sample definition and comparability | Versioned prompt set |
| Run fails or feature is absent | Preserve collection status | Collection owner | Show missing observation separately | Actual capture/status log |
Set investigation triggers before reviewing the period and tie urgency to the buyer impact, not a single omitted mention. For a real issue, retain the exact dated answer, citation and source passage. Name the next action and owner, then distinguish a corrected source from a corrected answer. Use the linked measurement protocol for denominators and repeated-run design. Do not erase an earlier observation when a later answer differs.
Close the investigation with two separate receipts
For the recurring product error in the example, record the source edit and its review date in the investigation row. Keep the next answer capture linked to that row, whether it confirms the correction, repeats the error or cannot be assessed. Close the source issue when its approved change is verified; leave the answer observation open until a new capture exists.
Surface changes can invalidate a report comparison
An account, model or surface change can alter the experience during the period. Annotate the change and split the comparison where necessary instead of presenting the combined series as fully consistent.
Close an investigation only when its stated evidence exists. Report a source fix, answer change and method change separately; none establishes that the brand has gained a stable rank or that the edit caused a commercial result.
When should a changed answer trigger a rewrite?
Investigate when the change reveals a material factual error or an unanswered buyer task. A different mention order alone does not identify a copy defect. Review the cited passage, the matched context and the buyer impact before choosing a page edit.
