Audit the facts that distinguish the business
Compare public name, service scope, ownership, history and external references against current approved identity records. Correct ambiguity without inheriting another company’s proof. The audit should help a buyer understand the entity they are contacting, while any claimed AI confusion or correction remains tied to an actual dated source trace.
Worked example — illustrative data.
| Identity field | Specimen check | Correction rule |
|---|---|---|
| Business name | Same intended entity across About and Contact | Use approved canonical wording |
| Service scope | SEO and website-design agency, not unrelated software firm | State the actual current offer |
| Ownership | Current approved company relationship | Do not infer from domain history |
| History and proof | Only permissioned current evidence | Remove unsupported continuity |
| External references | Identify which entity a source describes | Do not copy unrelated accolades |
Inventory the homepage, About, Contact, structured data and public profiles relevant to the business. Record the exact name, ownership, scope and contact destination shown in each. Compare them with the current approved records. Where another entity shares the name, use a concise accurate distinction that helps a buyer understand who they are contacting. Keep uncertainty in the evidence register instead of filling a founding-year or awards strip from old search results.
Write an entity contrast a reader can verify
For two similarly named businesses, compare their current domain, operator, offer and actual location policy in one private review sheet. Use only the facts needed to identify the business on the public page. Link to the current owner or About page where useful. Do not repeat the other company’s history at length merely to mention its name more often.
Decision: Publish only the current supported identity and necessary clarification. Evaluate actual answer confusion through a dated source trace rather than assuming identity edits guarantee an AI correction.
Domain history does not transfer predecessor achievements: A domain may previously have belonged to a different company. Historical backlinks and archived pages do not establish that the current operator can claim the predecessor’s customers or achievements.
Should I claim the old company’s founding date?
Use only a founding or tenure statement supported by the current business record. Owning a domain with an earlier history does not establish continuity of staff, services, clients or achievements. Historical references need clear attribution to the entity they describe.
